The Buttercream Flowers class is dedicated to the step-by-step instructions for creating a wide range of unique flowers, fillers and foliage. 49 to be exact! Examples range from Anemone, Peony, Ranunculus, Hydrangea and Zinnia. (Refer to the curriculum below for the full list of flowers.) Each detailed tutorial is accompanied by an instructional video. As an added bonus, lessons on design principles and arranging cakes and cupcakes are included. Cake arrangements include wreath, crescent, full, bouquet and center bouquet. Cupcakes arrangements include single and trio designs. This class is perfect for students that strictly want to learn flower piping and arranging techniques. Who is this course for?
Anyone and everyone! This class will teach something to students of all skill levels. Whether you are a beginner who has never piped a flower or an expert looking to broaden your repertoire of flowers, this class has something for everyone. It is richly detailed with technical instruction and Liz's practical tips drawn from over 10 years of experience.

Where can I get all the special tools used in this course?
Specialty tools may be hard to find so we made it easy for you! You can purchase a buttercream flower tool kit that includes all the tips/nozzles necessary to create every flower in this class. It also includes other essentials tools such as flower lifter scissors, flower nail, wooden nail block and plastic couplers. Other items outside this kit such as spatulas and piping bags can easily be found at your local kitchen or craft store.

I need more hands-on help. Are there in-person workshops?
Yes! Cake decorating is a very hands-on skill so getting interactive instruction with personal attention is the most effective way to learn. Liz can host a private classes to accommodate your personal cake goals. Group classes are also held throughout the year in various cities. Liz Shim
Liz Shim, owner and head designer of Eat Cake Be Merry, discovered that she loved creating edible art when she was first taught how to make sugar flowers as a teenager. She was absolutely amazed at how a simple piece of gumpaste can be transformed into a beautiful rose. After graduating from the University of Michigan, Liz moved to San Francisco where she attended the California Culinary Academy. There she cultivated her passion for cakes and graduated the LeCordon Bleu program with highest honors in baking and pastry arts. Then, she flew across the country to New York City to hone her skills with some of the finest cake designers in the industry. In 2009, Liz started Eat Cake Be Merry and spent a decade making custom cakes for NYC clients. In 2019, Eat Cake Be Merry relocated to Houston, TX. Liz has appeared on television shows, has her works published in books and has been featured in numerous nationwide magazines such as People, Money, Brides, The Knot and Better Home and Gardens. She has been named one of Martha Stewart's Top Pastry Pros in America and has been awarded multiple times for the Best Wedding Cakes in America by Brides Magazine, as well as Best of Weddings by The Knot. She is also the instructor of three online Craftsy classes and teaches workshops worldwide.
